Catawba Wind Ensemble Offers Free Concert November 19

PhotoCatawba College's Shuford School of Performing Arts will present the 2013 College Wind Ensemble in concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 19 in Keppel Auditorium on campus. The concert program will include wind ensemble music by N.C. composers and is free and open to the public.

College student conductors will direct various compositions offered in the program. Student conductors and the compositions they will conduct include:

Jordan Warren of Salisbury - "The Belle of Chicago" by John Phillip Sousa / Ed Byrne; Taylor Lee of Landis - "Resplendent Glory" by Rossano Galante; Patrick Karriker of Landis - "Amazing Grace" by Frank Tichelli; Hunter Safrit of Salisbury – "The Light Eternal" by James Swearingen; and Zack Veitenheimer of Tobbaccoville – "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" by Richard Wagner.

Offerings by N.C. composers include Edd Powell's "A Stonecrest Fantasy," Marvin Rorie's "Get Up! (A Call to Action), Nicholas Luciano's "Relyo," Joseph Earp's "Concordia," Rodney Money's "Amazing Grace" and Bruce W. Tippette's "Ablaze."

Composer Nicholas Luciano of Concord is the youngest composer whose music will be featured in the Nov. 19 concert. He is a senior music education major at Catawba College and a 2010 graduate of Central Cabarrus High School in Concord. His plans are to pursue graduate studies in music theory and composition, as well as continuing in his clarinet performance studies.
