Dr. Joe Poston to Talk about Eco-Photography
October 17, 2018
Dr. Joe Poston, a Professor of Biology at Catawba College, will offer a talk about nature photography to the public between 6:30 and 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 25. Following his talk, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception will unveil a gallery of his photos in the Center for the Environment building on the Catawba College campus.
A hobbyist photographer for many years, Poston started with film cameras and now uses digital cameras. Many photos are close-up portraits of warblers and other birds that Poston captures for scientific research purposes. The gallery will also include images of other types of wildlife, ranging from chipmunks to salamanders, as well as landscapes. Most photos are from North Carolina; but some come from travels elsewhere including South Carolina, the Midwest, the Southwestern US, England, and Bonaire, a Caribbean island.
Poston, who earned his Ph.D. in Ecology from the UNC Chapel Hill, is interested in Conservation Biology, Ornithology, and Ecology. He joined the faculty at Catawba in August 2000.
