Local Students Qualify for Regional Mathematics Contests

Local students were among the 124 students participating in the N.C. Council of Teachers of Mathematics state contests that Catawba College hosted on Thursday, March 25, 2010. Tests in Algebra I and Geometry were administered by the Catawba College Mathematics Department and the top seven students in geometry and the top nine students in Algebra I qualified for the regional contests.
The local students qualifying in Algebra I were Diamond Cauthen, North Rowan High School; Nick Greene, Sacred Heart; Hunter McIntyre, Southeast Middle; and Samantha Washko, Salisbury Academy.
The local students qualifying in Geometry were Mack Kennedy and Kaylyn Pogson, both from West Rowan High School. Kennedy placed third overall in Geometry.
Other local students who competed in the competition were from West Rowan High School: Lyric Ramseu, Jay Johnson, Adam Krotchko, Shay Steele, Kaylen Pogson, Kayla Boley, Mack Kennedy, Lauren Luther, Grant Beatty, Randy Boles, Christian Hedrick, Franco Abad, Nick Waldo and Austin Kinley; Southeast Middle: Nicholas Barlowe, Savannah Deal, Paige Hartsell, Zack Martin, Hunter McIntyre, Brock Miller, Lyndsey Moore, Brendon Palmer, McKenzie Stevens and Megan Yates; Salisbury Academy: Eleanor Alcorn, John Latimer, Ryan Uliana, Samantha Washko and Maria Weber; Sacred Heart Catholic School: Banks Fisher, Nick Greene, Jordan Dejaco, Erin Roy, Lauren Roy and Thomas McPherson; and North Rowan High School: Kevin Burnham, Diamond Cauthen, Danielle Eagle, Ryan Helm, Dakota Honeycutt, Warren Massey, Nicholas Overcash, Alex Gilland, Jennifer Oakley and Camden Ramsey.
