Noyce Scholars Have Teambuilding Session with Dr. O
May 1, 2014
The first cohort of Noyce Scholars met with Dr. Cyndi Osterhus on Wednesday, January 15th for a teambuilding session on leadership.
Since the scholars will be collaborating closely on a STEM education project, Dr. Osterhus gave them a refresher course in teamwork, respect and trust. Students worked with trust falls, blindfolds and spider webs to reinforce their personal strengths as well as to build upon group ideals. They also learned that part of teamwork not only includes good leadership but good listening skills as well.
Noyce Scholars will be working on a collaborative project for Horizons Unlimited under the supervision of director Lisa Wear during the spring semester. Students will be creating a unit of their own design that incorporates all components of STEM education. This unit will be produced to offer an educational program at Horizons for the first time to local high schools. It will also coincide with the rededication of 23 acres of unique plant and animal life as a natural park. It is a exceptional opportunity for the Noyce Scholars to leave a legacy with the creation of a program that will be used to provide hands-on STEM experiences at Horizons for many years to come.
