Salisbury Community Meets Catawba's New President and First Lady

Catawba College alumni and friends in the Salisbury-Rowan County area gathered on campus Sunday, Sept. 21 to meet and greet the College's 21st president and first lady, Dr. and Mrs. Craig Turner. Although the Turners had attended similar gatherings over the summer in Charlotte, Hickory, Greensboro and Raleigh getting to know alumni and friends of the college, Sunday's event marked the first opportunity for people in Salisbury and several hundred took advantage of it.
Catawba College Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Tom Smith '64 emceed the event, introducing several former first ladies, including Mrs. Jacqueline Leonard, widow of Catawba's 17th president, Dr. Theodore Leonard, and Mrs. Jean Wurster, widow of Catawba's 18th president, Dr. Stephen Wurster, along with the institution's 20th President, Dr. Robert Knott, who retired May 31st.
Dr, Turner assumed the presidency at Catawba on June 1, after serving six years as president of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.
