Vaccination Policy

Catawba College
Mandatory Vaccination Policy

I. Purpose. In accordance with the responsibility and duty to provide and maintain a workplace free of known hazards, Catawba College (“Catawba”) adopts this Policy to safeguard the health of its students and employees. This Policy will comply with all applicable laws and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health authorities, as applicable.

II. Scope.

A. All students, faculty, and staff who will be on the Catawba campus beginning January 1, 2022, are required to complete the required dosage of a COVID-19 vaccine at least two (2) weeks prior to returning to campus (being December 17, 2021), unless Catawba approves a request for exemption as detailed below.

B. Effective January 1, 2022, unvaccinated students without an exemption are not allowed on the Catawba campus without prior approval. Students in the Catawba Online program are exempt from this vaccination requirement.

C. Unvaccinated employees without an exemption will be placed on unpaid leave effective January 1, 2022 until Catawba determines their employment status, and will not be allowed on the Catawba campus without prior approval.

III. Procedures.

A. There is no charge for COVID-19 vaccinations in the United States.

B. Catawba provides paid leave for any employee to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. Employees are to work with their supervisors to schedule appropriate time to comply with this Policy.

C. Before the stated deadlines have expired:

1. Students who have yet to provide proof of vaccination are required to provide either proof of vaccination or submit a request for exemption to The Proctor Student Health Center.

2. Employees who have yet to submit proof of vaccination are required to provide either proof of vaccination or submit a request for exemption to Human Resources.

IV. Request for Exemption.

A. Students and employees may request an exemption from this vaccination requirement due to a medical reason or a sincerely held religious belief.

B. To initiate the exemption process, a student or employee must submit either a Medical Accommodation Request Form or a Religious Accommodation Request Form.

C. In order to be present on campus on or before January 1, 2022, students are to submit their form to The Proctor Student Health Center on or before November 15, 2021.

D. Employees are to submit their form to Human Resources or before November 15, 2021.

E. Catawba will grant an exemption where appropriate, provided the exemption does not cause Catawba an undue hardship or pose a direct threat to the health and safety of others at Catawba.

F. Students and employees granted an exemption to this requirement will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test at least once weekly and comply with all additional conditions and requirements imposed and deemed necessary by Catawba to maintain the health and safety of the Catawba community and campus.

V. Requests for Information.

A. Students are to direct any questions regarding the Catawba COVID-19 vaccination requirement to the One Stop Center.

B. Employees are to direct any questions regarding the Catawba COVID-19 vaccination requirement to Human Resources.
