Online courses for first-year students entering Catawba in Fall 2020.

Take Your Fall 2020 Catawba College Courses Online.

As a first-year student at Catawba College, you have the option of participating in the “Catawba At Home” program and taking your Fall semester courses completely online.  This program includes First-Year Success Studies, as well as several online general education courses.

As a Cat@Home student, you will take your courses as a cohort and participate in enrichment activities that will keep you connected to our close-knit campus community. Even though you’ll be taking your courses online, we’re here for you if you need us. You’ll have full access to tutoring services and online tools.

Course Information

Catawba at Home students will take a full 15-credit hour semester during the Fall 2020 semester:

16-WEEK COURSE

GEN 1102 – First-Year Success Studies
This course will examine the four pillars of Catawba College (Scholarship, Character, Culture, and Service) and how they incorporate into the Catawba College Experience.

This course will also help students understand Catawba College student processes and student resources and will explore ways for students to be successful during their first year and beyond.

BLOCK 1: 8 WEEKS

ENGL 1103 – Critical Reading and Writing
An applied rhetoric course focusing on intensive practice in basic concepts of written communication; active reading skills; research strategies; MLA documentation conventions; principles of organization and coherence; prewriting, drafting, and revising practices; and surface correctness of sentences.

COMM 1101 – Public Speaking
A study of oral communication with attention to vocal delivery, bodily action, and speech composition.

BLOCK 2: 8 WEEKS

PSYC 1500 – Human Development
A survey of the important methods, theories, themes, issues, and research findings in the field of lifespan developmental psychology.

MATH 1132 – Introduction to Statistics
An introduction to elementary statistics, including topics such as normal distribution, histograms, mean, standard deviations, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing techniques.
