Catawba College remains #4 among the Best Regional Colleges – South, according to the 2019 U.S. News “Best Colleges” rankings released September 10th. Additionally, in the Best Regional Colleges – South category, U.S. News cites Catawba as a Best Value School, for its Strong Commitment to Undergraduate Teaching, and for being the #1 Best College for Veterans.
“U.S. News and Princeton Review continue to recognize Catawba College as one of this nation’s best institutions for higher education. Our consistent inclusion in these publications indicates that our efforts to engage our students in the classrooms and in the life of the college and to prepare them for life after college are measurably successful,” Catawba President Brien Lewis said.
Catawba was among just under 1,400 institutions that were ranked by U.S. News. In the Regional Colleges category, institutions are ranked according to geographic region: North, South, Midwest, and West. Schools in this category focus almost entirely on the undergraduate experience and offer a range of programs in the liberal arts (which account for fewer than half of the bachelor’s degrees granted) and in fields such as business, nursing and education.
U.S. News rankings for 2019 are based on key measures of quality, all of which are weighted. These measures include outcomes (35%) [social mobility (5%), graduation and retention (22%) and graduation rate performance (8%)]; faculty resources (20%); expert opinion (20%); financial resources (10%); student excellence (10%); and alumni giving (5%).
