Check Out Items

If there’s something in particular you’d like to find, you can search our catalog for the availability and location of the item. However, our Help Desk staff members are always available for catalog searches, and to help you find an item in the library. Once you’ve found the item(s) you want, bring it to the Help Desk with your Catawba ID card, and a library staff member will check the item(s) out to you.

Dry Erase Markers and Erasers, Headphones, Calculator and Flash Drive

Headphones, a calculator, and a flash drive are all available for checkout at the library Help Desk.

Dry erase markers and erasers are freely available in each study room with a dry erase board. If markers or erasers are missing or dried out, please request new ones at the desk.

Return Items

If the library is open, return the item(s) to a staff member at the Help Desk. If the library is closed, a book drop is located at the library entrance to your left, right before you enter the library. A staff member will retrieve the items when the library opens. However, please do not return reserve items or laptops to the book drops. Bring them directly to a Help Desk staff member during normal operating hours.

Renew an Item

You can ask for a renewal in-person, over the phone, or through our website.  To renew an item online, go to My Account on the library’s homepage and log in with your Catawba username and password.   Click “Renew” beside of the item you would like to renew.  (Please note, laptops cannot be renewed.)  Your new due date should display under the due date column.  Please keep in mind that the library only allows one renewal per checkout; if you would like to renew the item again, please return it, and then wait 48 hours before checking the item out again.

Holds/Recalls

If there is an item checked out you need, you can place a hold on the item, which ensures that the item cannot be renewed, and you will be notified when it is returned. Holds cannot be placed on reserve items or laptops. Please see the Help Desk to place a hold.

If there is an overdue item that you need, you can request a recall on that item. Recalled items are expected to be returned immediately. This applies to all library items, as long as they are already overdue. Please see the Help Desk to request a recall.
