School officials named new principals for Knollwood Elementary and Southeast Middle Schools Tuesday, filling the last two principal vacancies in the system.
Shonda R. Hairston will serve as principal at Knollwood and Louis Edward "Skip" Kraft will move up to take Jamie Durant's place at Southeast Middle.
Hairston has worked as an assistant principal at Salisbury High School since 2004. She started her career in the Rowan-Salisbury system in 1993 as an eighth-grade teacher at Corriher-Lipe Middle. She moved to Knox Middle School in 1998, where she was voted Teacher of the Year.
She earned her bachelor's degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and finished her master's degree in school administration in 2006, also from UNC-Charlotte.
Kraft has served as an assistant principal at Southeast Middle since 2004.
He also started his career as a teacher in the Rowan-Salisbury system, serving as a teacher and coach at West Rowan High School from 1983 to 2004. Kraft was chosen as West Rowan's Teacher of the Year in 1989 and 1997. He was also voted Rowan County /YVC coach of the year in 1994 and 1997.
Kraft is a Catawba College graduate. He earned his bachelor's degree in special education and adaptive physical education in 1983. Kraft also finished his master's degree in school administration in 2006 at UNC-Charlotte.
