- M.S. Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University
- Ph.D. Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University
Dr. Diana Riser completed her B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy at University of Alabama in Huntsville. After undergrad, she took 4 “gap” years to do applied community and public health work. In applied work, Dr. Riser worked with children with disabilities and autism spectrum disorders as well as survivors of sexual abuse and provided community education on prevention of sexual abuse and domestic/dating violence. She then completed her Ph.D. in Developmental & Biological Psychology with a Minor in Women’s & Gender Studies at Virginia Tech. She enjoys teaching a variety of courses, including human development and developmental theories. Her research focuses on risk and protective factors in human development, promoting resilience in survivors of child trauma, and promoting healthy parent-child relationships. Dr. Riser also does research on best practices in teaching and learning. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family (two children, three pets, and partner), playing video games, dabbling in music and crafts, and exercising.
