Q: Does Catawba College own and operate Catawba GO vehicles?
A: No, Catawba College has a partnership with Slidr, a third-party company that staffs van drivers, procures and services vehicles, updates the Catawba GO phone application, and maintains quality assurance for the Catawba GO program.
Q: Can I set up an on-demand ride for a later time or date?
A: Yes, on the home page of the Catawba GO app, there is a scheduling feature. At the top, where it says "Where to?", click the clock icon where it should say "now". A dropdown will appear and you can schedule a ride anytime from 2 hours to 2 weeks in advance.
Q: As a student or Salisbury community member, are there opportunities to drive for Slidr?
A: Yes, Slidr maintains job openings for qualified applicants for their driver positions on their website.
Q: I live/have a desired destination slightly outside of the service area, will you consider making amendments to the on-demand service area?
A: Yes, we will consider amending the on-demand service area if a student, faculty, or staff members emails a request to Noah Upchurch. A request may be denied if the location is determined to be substantially outside of the existing service area boundary or may impair the ability of Slidr to provide timely service to all riders. If accepted, location changes in the app may take up to 7 business days to complete.
Q: Can I bring pets on Catawba GO vans?
A: No.
Q: Can this service go to places other than Catawba College's main campus or my place of residence?
A: Yes! During the service hours, on-demand service can take you between two non-college locations. For example, if you were at the Salisbury branch of the Rowan County Public Library and wanted to get to Food Lion, you would be allowed to request a ride to go between those locations.
Q: Why might my wait time be longer than usual?
A: The Catawba Go service is utilized by many individuals at the College and has over 400 downloaded users. At some peak times, the ride time estimator may show you high wait times. Your ride may shrink from the estimate as others are picked up or rides are chained together.
Q: Can I schedule a ride for others?
A: Individuals without Catawba ID are not allowed on Catawba GO vans without the presence of the person with Catawba ID that has requested the ride. Scheduling rides for others without being present may result in a ban from using the service.
If you are trying to request a ride for another person with Catawba ID that is having difficulties using the app, please contact Mike at Slidr.
Q: Is the app available on international app stores and/or through a computer-only version of the App?
A: As of January 12, 2026, Catawba GO is supported by non-US App Stores. However, the Catawba GO app is only available on phones, not computers. In the event that a driver cannot find a rider at their pick up location, a driver may use, if allowed, the location of the mobile device of a requester to ensure that they are in the most accurate pick up location. If a rider cannot find their van, drivers are instructed to either call or text the cell number on file with their app account.
Q: Does Catawba College rent out Catawba GO vans to third parties?
A: Currently, Catawba College does not have the ability to rent out vans, since they are overseen by Slidr and not the College.
