How do I apply?

Complete the new online application (link available September 15, 2025!). Include a 250-word proposal with purpose, goals, and anticipated impact, plus a clear budget. Provide supporting materials if available. Applications will automatically be checked for eligibility and routed for pre-certification, so students will receive notifications detailing how to resolve any holds or provide missing information.

What is pre-certification?

Before funding is awarded, proposals are reviewed by a faculty/staff expert in the relevant field:
- Internships: Michael Frederick Director of Internships and Career Planning
- Research: Dr. Carmony Hartwig
- Study Abroad: Jess Alfaro, Director of the Ketner Center for International Studies
- Service Learning: TBD
- Creative Projects: TBD

When should I apply?

Applications are accepted in three cycles:

  • Cycle 1: Application portal open Sept 15–25, 2025 (for activities before Mar 30, 2026) – funds disbursed Jan 2026
  • Cycle 2: Application portal open Oct 20–Nov 3, 2025 (for activities after Apr 1, 2026) – funds disbursed Mar 2026
  • Cycle 3: Application portal open Mar 23–Apr 10, 2026 (for Summer or Fall 2026 activities) — funds disbursed May 2026

How will I receive the money?

Almost all Impact Awards are disbursed as scholarship funds through the Financial Aid Office as a check or via direct deposit. For group travel, funds go to the departmental travel account.

What happens after my experience?

You must complete a post-experience reflection; this helps you connect your learning to your academic and career goals. Full guidance and details on post-experience requirements is coming soon.

Can I apply more than once?

Yes, if you haven’t exceeded the $3,000 lifetime limit and remain eligible.

What if I have a hold on my account?

All academic and registrar’s holds must be cleared for your Impact Award application to be considered complete. If you are granted an Impact Award, all financial holds must be cleared before your award funds can be disbursed.

What makes a strong application?

A clear proposal and goals, demonstrated educational value, detailed budget, and relevant supporting documentation. Check back here at the end of August for more guidance on these questions.
