Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Accountant II to join the Finance Team at Catawba College. The Accountant II candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial integrity and accountability of our institution. This position is responsible for completing complex financial transactions, preparing detailed financial reports, and ensuring compliance with applicable GAAP and all departmental internal controls and policies. The Accountant II will collaborate with Finance team members and various departments to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis efforts. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to enhancing the financial operations of our institution.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with the completion of year end external audits, Internal Control Assessments, as well as month end close tasks.
- Review all employee expense reports for accuracy, identify and resolve discrepancies, ensuring compliance with institutional policies. Provide updates to the Accounting & Accounts Payable Coordinator to ensure accurate payment data is included for the weekly check run process.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of employee expense reports.
- Oversee the tracking, recording, and reporting of fixed assets throughout their lifecycle, from acquisition to disposal.
- Perform regular assessments of fixed asset values, including depreciation calculations and impairment analyses.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date fixed asset inventories, ensuring all assets are properly tagged and recorded.
- Conduct monthly reconciliations of fixed asset accounts with the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare detailed reports on fixed asset activities, including additions, disposals, and depreciation expense, for financial statements and management review.
- Monitor and report on capital projects, ensuring expenditures are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provide guidance and training to staff on fixed asset management procedures and systems.
- Identify opportunities for enhancing fixed asset management processes and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Review and reconcile monthly purchasing card statements, card holders’ receipts and supporting documentation for accuracy, adherence to budget guidelines, and approve transactions.
- Identify and resolve any P-card discrepancies and troubleshoot technical issues in a timely manner.
- Provide training to all new purchasing card holders and approvers on the institutions policies procedures and best practices for responsible usage.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports, ensuring accurate reflection of P-card expenditures in the university’s financial records.
- Complete monthly G/L and balance sheet account accounts receivable reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, to identify discrepancies and ensure financial accuracy.
- Work closely with the Accounting Supervisor as well as various department managers to provide financial guidance and support for grant management, capital projects, and other financial initiatives.
- Mentor and provide training to Accountant I, fostering professional development and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure all journal entries for month end close have been prepared, reviewed for accuracy and posted by the month end cut-off period.
- Resolve variances noted and provide reporting updates to the Accounting Supervisor.
- Attend monthly team meetings with the business office finance team and provide review of Fixed Assets, Expenditures and Accounts Payable & Receivable reconciliations, variances and/or issues that need to be addressed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Familiarity with fund accounting and government regulations related to higher education financial operations. Proficient in accounting software (Banner, Razors Edge, Argos), Teams and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret financial data and provide insights. Essential Functions:
- Supervise finance team members, providing guidance and support in their daily tasks.
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for internal and external stakeholders.
- Complete the reconciliation process for the general ledger cash accounts.
- Ensure the timely completion of all month-end close reconciliations, all journal entries have been accurately recorded and reconciled, resolve variances noted and provide reporting updates to the Director of Finance.
- Ensure all finance and accounting tasks completed are in compliance with GAAP and all departmental policies and procedures.
- Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Provide financial forecasts and variance analyses for departmental budgets, to the Director of Finance and Director of Budget.
- Assist the Director of Finance with completion of internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
- Identify risk areas for process improvements, to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in accounting operations.
- Prepare reconciled financial reports and assist the Director of Finance with the preparation of monthly financial summaries to include Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Profit & Loss Statement and Statement of cash flows.
- Work closely with other department and program managers to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes.
- Participate in special projects related to financial planning, analysis, and strategic initiatives as assigned by senior management.
- Review and approve monthly Fixed Asset reconciliations completed by Accountant II.
- Review and approve all month-end close financial reconciliations completed by the reporting finance team members. Ensure all variances and discrepancies have been resolved.
- Ensure all month-end and year-end accrual journal entries have been reviewed and approved prior to posting to the banner system.
- Provide weekly updates on all accounting and financial reporting activities, variances noted, outstanding issues, etc. to the Director of Finance.
- Attend monthly team meetings with the business office finance team and provide high level analysis of current accounting activities, program and/or departmental requests or issues that need to be addressed.
- Act as backup to the Director of Finance in their absence, to ensure accurate and timely completion of financial reports.
- Perform periodic analysis of Chart of Accounts within Banner system to ensure no erroneous entries of incorrect code usage.
- Manage the Chart of Accounts, responding to new account fund code requests, identifying inactive codes that meet the institutional Fund Code policy and complete procedures to deactivate and remove fund codes, ensure no duplicate codes are being used, and collaborate with Department of Development on a quarterly basis to review fund codes are reporting the same between razors edge and banner.
- Assist the Director of Budget and Director of Finance with requested financial data to incorporate into the budget forecast preparations.
- Manage the Procurement Specialist responsibility of administering the Truist Bank Purchasing Card program to designated Catawba employees.
- Maintain relationships with Truist Bank stakeholders and Commercial Card service team members.
- Ensure application for credit card limit increases have been reviewed and submitted to the Director of Finance for approval and processing.
- Oversee the monthly reconciliations of departmental P-cards and troubleshoot all P-card issues as necessary.
- Prepare and submit required tax filings, reports, and year-end forms for vendors and contractors (e.g.1099, etc.).
- Review and approve all check runs prior to checks being issued.
- Assist the Director of Finance with the implementation of policies and procedures governing P-card usage and financial reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.

Catawba College (“Catawba”) seeks applicants for its Area Coordinator for Housing and Residence Life position. The Area Coordinator is pivotal in fostering a vibrant and supportive residential community at Catawba College. This live-in position oversees the day-to-day operations of assigned residential areas, providing leadership in student development, crisis management, and community building. The coordinator supervises a team of Resident Assistants (RAs) and collaborates closely with campus partners to enhance the overall student experience within the residential community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Directly supervise and facilitate Catawba Resident Assistant's recruitment, training, and development.
- Consistent with the Catawba Mission and Student Affairs priorities, create and implement a team development plan that includes, but is not limited to, individual meetings, weekly staff meetings, and team bonding activities.
- Supervise, train, and mentor Resident Assistants (RAs) to ensure adequate support and programming within assigned residential areas.
- Develop and implement community-building initiatives and residence hall programs that promote student engagement, inclusivity, and personal growth.
- Serve as a conduct officer, adjudicating student conduct cases and maintaining accurate documentation by college policies.
- Coordinate residence hall openings and closings, including room inspections, key distribution, and related administrative tasks.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies and serve in an on-call rotation to support students and enforce policies.
- Collaborate with Facilities Management for maintenance and custodial needs within residential facilities.
- Assist with selecting, training, and evaluating RAs and other residence life staff members.

- Participate in on-call rotation with other Residence Life and Housing staff; work cooperatively with Academic Affairs, Chaplain Office, Catawba Public Safety, Student Health Services, Catawba counselors, and other campus and community resources to assist in emergencies and crises.
- Contribute to an effective unit by completing special projects and performing other duties assigned by the Dean of Students.
- On Call & Crisis Management
- Serve in on-call crisis management rotation for the campus.
- Provide emergency response and crisis management as needed on campus and for staff.
- Develop a residence hall on-call program with the Resident Assistants to ensure 24-hour, seven-day coverage in the residence halls

The School of Health Sciences & Human Performance at Catawba College is growing and welcomes applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Sport Management (tenure-track) beginning Jan. 2025/Aug. 2025. The School of Health Sciences & Human Performance at Catawba College currently offers degrees in Exercise Science, Nursing, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Recreational Therapy, and Sport Management. The Shuford School of Performing Arts at Catawba College seeks a tenure-track exceptional professional with specializations in Lighting Design and Technical Direction to teach courses at Catawba College. The successful candidate would run the Scenic Shop in the Theatre Department and teach Lighting Design and technology courses between theatre and music, including in the new BS in Entertainment Industries degree. Catawba College has a long-standing commitment to professional-level training in both programs, in a vibrant undergraduate setting with a strong, integrated focus on liberal studies. While Catawba encourages applications from qualified candidates with a range of interests in both Music and Theatre, the selected candidate will anchor Catawba’s Technical Theatre program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach two (2) or more classes in the Lighting Design and/or TD specializations, including Stage Lighting, Lighting Production Studio, Fundamentals of Theatre Design, Stagecraft, Audio, and Lighting Technology
- Manage and maintain the Scenic Shop; safe construction for all department productions (currently four (4) mainstage shows, with an additional 1-2 black box student shows)
- Light up to two (2) productions per semester
- Create technical drawings and plans for scenic construction and/or light plots for hang
- Create and maintain production schedules and budgets for each show in conjunction with Chair
- Play an active role in recruitment for the Music and Theatre programs
- Support and cultivate internship opportunities
- Advise students as assigned
- Other opportunities reflective of candidate’s expertise are possible, including teaching in Catawba’s General Education, First Year Seminar, and Honors programs
- Participate in the greater Catawba community and serve on Catawba committees as assigned

Job Purpose
The assistant coach will be responsible for supporting the head coach in managing all aspects of a competitive and successful NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Track and Field program with the primary responsibility being the planning and instruction of vertical and horizontal jumps. This position will also serve as the recruiting coordinator. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to the academic success of the student-athletes in the program that leads to graduation through a positive collegiate experience.

Overseeing a total contracted and college workforce of 44, including five (5) management and administrative staff persons, the AVPFMCP is responsible for the stewardship of the College’s physical assets — a beautiful 276-acre campus including an ecological preserve and 1.1+ million square feet of space in 41 major buildings including residence halls, academic buildings, sports venues, and historic structures.

Capital Planning and Project Management:

- Lead the management of all campus capital projects, including third-party project management of smaller renovation and construction projects and large capital projects, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, are coordinated to minimize impact to the College community, and meet the College’s standards, as well as codes and standards enforced by authorities having jurisdiction.
Sustainability
- Work closely with the Vice President of Sustainability and other key stakeholders to achieve the College’s sustainability goals and objectives.
- Lead facilities sustainability initiatives to continue to be a leader in reducing the environmental footprint and promoting sustainable practices in North Carolina, the Southeast United States, and higher education.
- Implement energy management programs and initiatives to enhance energy efficiency and reduce utility costs.

Custodial, Grounds and Maintenance:
- Oversee the administration of third-party contract(s) to provide maintenance, groundskeeping, and custodial services to the College.
- Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources, including planning, budgeting, staffing, and procurement processes.
- Collaborate with third-party contractor(s) to develop and implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
- Work with the third-party contractor to develop and maintain a comprehensive asset and work management system to record and manage work orders, supplies, and asset information.
- Develop and maintain facility renewal data and utilize to establish a campus-wide preventive maintenance program, prioritize projects and renovations, and advise College administrators on space planning and future uses of existing facilities.
Preventive Maintenance:
- In partnership with third-party partners, develop and implement preventive maintenance program for the College's facilities and physical infrastructure.
Budget and Procurement Management
- In collaboration with contractors and Finance & Administration, develop fiscal controls and project status reporting for capital projects.
- Develop and manage the facilities department’s annual operating and capital budgets.
- Ensure financial accountability, transparency, and compliance with all College and regulatory policies and procedures for all facilities-related expenditures and procurements.
- Review all contractor pay applications and invoices to ensure contract compliance and budget adherence.
- This position will be responsible for the management of any large capital projects determined to be managed by the university.
Emergency Preparedness and Response and Safety:
- Work closely with the Risk Manager in development and management of emergency response plans related to facilities, including protocols for natural disasters, fires, inclement weather, and other emergencies.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Public Safety provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and policy development for the Campus Safety department at Catawba College. This position ensures a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by fostering collaborative partnerships, implementing effective security practices, and maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Administration:
- Develop and oversee the strategic direction of the Public Safety department, aligning with the institution’s mission and goals.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate departmental staff, ensuring professional development and adherence to institutional policies.
- Develop and manage the department’s budget, including resource allocation and cost optimization.
- Lead emergency planning initiatives, including the development and execution of drills, exercises, and response protocols.
Campus Safety Operations:
- Oversee daily operations, including security patrols, building access controls, and incident response.
- Manage security systems, including surveillance, alarm systems, and access card systems.
- Collaborate with Facilities Management to ensure campus infrastructure supports safety and security objectives.
- Coordinate event security for campus activities, including athletic events, concerts, and other gatherings.
Community Engagement and Partnerships:
- Foster strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders to build trust and promote safety awareness.
- Serve as the primary liaison with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management agencies.
- Develop and deliver safety education programs and materials to the campus community.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Clery Act reporting, Title IX requirements, and ADA compliance as related to safety.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of the Annual Security Report (ASR).
- Conduct regular audits of policies, procedures, and systems to ensure alignment with best practices.
Crisis Management:
- Act as the lead coordinator during campus emergencies, implementing incident command protocols and providing updates to senior leadership.
- Maintain and regularly update the institution’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
- Coordinate post-incident reviews and recommend improvements for future preparedness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, emergency management, or a related field (master’s preferred).
- Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in campus safety, public safety, security, or a related field.
- Experience in higher education or a similarly complex environment is highly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of public safety principles, emergency management, and regulatory compliance (e.g., Clery Act, OSHA, Title IX).

The Department of Theatre Arts at Catawba College seeks an exceptional professional in Musical Theatre with a primary specialization in musical theatre dance styles and choreography. We seek artist/scholars with a strong commitment to professional-level training in a vibrant undergraduate program with a heavy focus on the liberal arts. Preference will be given to candidates who can also direct musicals.
Responsibilities:
he successful candidate will be able to take on varied responsibilities as the program demands, which may include but are not limited to: teaching technique in ballet/jazz/tap/modern and musical theatre styles, heading a collaborative student class-based Dance Ensemble, a dance minor, and choreographing or directing productions. Extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertoire, a knowledge of current trends in the professional industry, and the skills required to work within those trends are essential to this position.
The candidate will choreograph at least one major musical per year, as well as supervise musical and dance performances by student musical theatre/dance ensembles. Other instructional duties include coaching of students on musical theatre auditions and advising. Opportunities reflective of candidate’s expertise are possible. An active role in recruitment for the theatre program, participation in the larger College Community, and service on campus committees are required.
Qualifications:
M.F.A. in Theatre, Dance, or other applicable degree. At least two years of full-time teaching of musical theatre dance on the college/university level or in professional dance settings. JOB OBJECTIVE: To ensure the safety of all persons and property on the Catawba College campus.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Understand and follow all campus security, safety, and emergency procedures
- Maintain familiarity and a positive working relationship with all members of the campus community
- Maintain a positive working relationship with all emergency services to include fire, police, and rescue
- Notify the Director of Public Safety and designated Catawba administrators of emergency situations occurring on or near campus
- Act as on the scene liaison between the Catawba and city/county emergency services
- Review, understand, and pass information pertinent to department daily operations via the daily shift log and shift change briefings
- Respond to all calls for service, assistance, and emergencies and provide escort as needed
- Responsible for locking and unlocking buildings in a timely manner
- Provide regular and frequent foot patrols of the interior and exterior of campus buildings and monitor all campus grounds and roadways. Make mobile patrols of campus as needed
- Responsible for completion of all incident reports, daily log entries, and/or any other written information pertaining to events occurring during the officer’s shift
- Monitor all campus parking areas and enforces traffic and parking regulations as needed

Position Summary:
The Senior Project Manager in the Office of the EVP/Provost will lead and manage complex, high-impact projects aimed at driving radical transformation across multiple divisions of the college, including Academic Affairs, Student Success, International Studies, Career Services, First-Year Experience, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented, strategic thinker with a collaborative leadership style, capable of navigating the complexities of formative academic and administrative structures. The Senior Project Manager will work closely with key stakeholders to implement forward-thinking initiatives that enhance organizational effectiveness, drive institutional distinction, and shape the student experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership & Management:
- Manage and/or support the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple, high-priority projects across divisions such as Core Curriculum Revision, Student Retention, Academic Advising & Success, Organizational Architecture, Policy Review and Revision, and others.
- Develop clear project timelines, goals, and success metrics to ensure all initiatives are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of project teams, ensuring alignment across departments and with the overarching strategic vision of the EVP/Provost team members’ areas of responsibility
- Strategic Planning & Implementation:
- Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to identify, define, and implement transformative initiatives that support divisional and institutional goals.
- Provide strategic recommendations to improve existing processes and systems within the college’s core areas (e.g., Registrar, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Act as a liaison between the Office of the Executive Vice President & Provost and other divisions, ensuring seamless communication and the successful implementation of processes and projects.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leadership, department heads, faculty, and staff to gather input, manage expectations, and gain buy-in for projects.
- Change Management & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Co-lead efforts to build awareness and understanding of the transformative changes across divisions, ensuring stakeholders are prepared and equipped to adapt.
- Anticipate problems and inform the EVP/Provost team lead of potential challenges, suggesting approaches towards resolution, while responding to and/or coordinating the processes within a time-sensitive framework.
- Stays informed of college’s evolving policies and processes and any applicable changes, as well as of the use of new and existing college tools and systems.
- Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Monitor project progress and measure outcomes using qualitative and quantitative metrics to assess the effectiveness of initiatives.
- Regularly report on project status to senior leadership, highlighting key milestones, risks, and recommendations for course correction.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across projects and processes. Develop reference materials such as case studies to guide future projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master's degree or a terminal degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management or a related field, with a proven track record of managing large, complex, cross-functional projects, preferably in a higher education or academic setting.

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Student Accounts & Collections Coordinator to support our financial operations related to student billing, collections and account management. In this role, you will assist with processing tuition payments, managing student accounts, and responding to billing and financial aid inquiries. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, exceptional customer service abilities, and a thorough understanding of financial policies within a higher education setting. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records and providing clear, supportive guidance to students and families on their account details. Essential Functions:
Customer Service & Inquiry Management:
- Provide outstanding customer service in a front-office setting, addressing inquiries and requests through the telephone queue and business office email.
- Collaborate with the Director of Student Accounts and other team members to ensure comprehensive coverage for all incoming queries.
Student Account Management:
- Accurately maintain student account charges, including tuition, room and board, student insurance, and other related fees.
- Process, verify, and post payments from students, families, and campus departments.
- Reconcile Financial Aid and G/L Student Accounts Receivables accurately and timely and provide reports to the Director of Student Accounts.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of student refund reports and provide to the Accounting & Accounts Payable Coordinator to be processed on the next check run cycle.
- Ensure all student refunds are in compliance with Title IV federal and state regulations.
- Issue and manage e-billing and account statements for students and their families.
Accounts Receivable & Reporting:
- Support accounts receivable processes during key times, such as payment due dates, final registrations, and administrative change dates.
- Generate weekly reports on student accounts receivables and collection activities for the Director of Student Accounts.
- Collaborate with the Collections Specialist on collection efforts, including managing aged trial balances and third-party accounts.
- Create invoices for third-party organizations that make payments on behalf of students.
- Assist the Director of Student Accounts with the accurate and timely completion and filing of 1098-T and 1042 Tax forms for all students.
Reconciliation & Compliance:
- Reconcile student accounts after each financial aid disbursement, ensuring accurate postings to the general ledger.
- Regularly compare student account transactions with the institution’s general ledger and resolve discrepancies.
- Notify the Director of Student Accounts of any discrepancies or variances identified in accounts receivable reconciliations.
Financial Holds & Collections:
- Work with the Director of Student Accounts to issue and release financial holds due to overdue student balances.
- Coordinate collection activities and collaborate on reporting for past-due accounts.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Produce and provide student account-related reports for internal departments as requested.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of all student account transactions, billing activities, and reconciliations.
General Duties:
- Adhere to Catawba College’s monetary controls and accounts receivable policies for all billing, cashiering, and deposit transactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
