Profile

Dr. Katherine Baker is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science in the Mathematical and Computing Sciences Department of the Ketner School of Business.  She utilized her degrees from UNCC to work in the computer industry for a few years and then had a calling to teaching.

The double majors in Mathematics and Computer Science allowed Dr. Baker to pursue a PhD in Applied Mathematics.  Specifically, her research interests were in Bioinformatics which is the application of math and computer science to biological systems.  Dr. Baker, along with her research group developed and created a program (called the Image Charge Solvation Method or ICSM) to model human proteins on the computer. Currently, Dr. Baker is the bridge between mathematics and computer science.

On her down time, Dr. Baker enjoys playing video games.  She has been a gamer since before there was any video involved in computer games.  She is currently playing several MMO’s.  She also enjoys keeping up with the ever-changing AI and Robotics industry.  Don’t bring it up unless you have a good hour to discuss it!
