Laura Collander joined the English Department at Catawba in 2023 after teaching writing at Rowan Cabarrus Community College and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She also has experience teaching in public K-12 schools in Massachusetts, Colorado, and North Carolina. She holds a B.A. in English from Marist College and an M. Ed. from Lesley University. She teaches Introduction to College Reading and Writing, Critical Reading and Writing, Reading and Writing in the Academic Community, and First Year Seminar. She focuses on building community in the college writing classroom to empower students to find agency in their writing.
