VP Updates

• New employee, Mike Smith, Senior Director of Athletic Development will start on August 15^th
• Development had a busy summer with alumni events and development visits
• Day of Giving will be Friday, September 23^rd – hope all faculty & staff will participate
• Homecoming October 21^st – 23^rd 
• Many other alumni/development events planned for the fall

Enrollment

• Successful delivery of transfer and first-year orientations in June and July
• Prior to census, overall enrollment is projected as an increase above approved budget and above Fall of 2021 census
  • Contributing factors include:
    • Over a 24% increase in new traditional transfer students
    • Nearly a 14% increase in new first-year enrollment
    • Nearly a 50% increase in new online undergraduate students
  • New or revised agreements with Clark Higher Ed, Slate, Niche, and EAB to improve new student enrollment in 2023 and beyond
  • Formed institutional Scholarship Committee to centralize scholarship strategies and awarding

Cannon Student Center

• Successful renovation of the Cannon Dining Hall into a state-of-the-art Dining Commons with increased stations and varieties
• Renovation of three sets of bathrooms
• Updates to Cannon Game Room, including new flooring and game tables

Student Affairs

• NASPA’s FirstGen Forward initiative planning launched this summer to better support first-generation college students
• Established Living-Learning Communities for Environment & Sustainability (Catawba Hall) and Esports ( Foil House)
• New third-party health provider for Proctor Health Center allowing for expanding coverage of Nurse Practitioners for 12-hours a week (instead of 3 hours) and ability to see faculty and staff
• Esports acquired a NASCAR-level racing simulator to expand esports offerings this fall

New Employees with the Division

• Mark Fox, Assistant Vice President for Admissions, joined the College in April after a long tenure in admissions at Presbyterian College in South Carolina where he also earned his bachelor’s degree
• Audrey Fowler, Admissions Counselor for the Shuford School for Performing Arts, joined the College in June. Audrey comes to us from Fredericksburg County Schools in Virginia where she served as Performing Arts Director after attaining her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Mary Washington University.
• Shodeah Kelly, One Stop Specialist, joined the College in August. She is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and is completing her graduate degree in Urban Education from UNC-Charlotte

Overarching Priorities for 2022-2023

• Continue to increase retention & persistence of students returning for fall 2023 through cross-divisional strategies and partnerships
• Maximize financial aid leveraging and packaging to increase net tuition/net revenue for new students
• Reach new student enrollment goals for each major population for spring, summer, and fall 2023
• Enhance the overall campus life experience through collaboration and new programmatic elements, including new student activities and expanded intramural sports offerings
• Enhance student leadership organizations through additional trainings and engagement
• Develop a first-generation living-learning community (LLC) for first-year students for 2023-24

Our new athletics web site launched Monday August 8!!!
