Lab Orientation
Get to know what you can do in the Digital Learning Lab with this introductory workshop! Students learn about the resources in the lab for personal and academic projects. This is great in combination with another workshop. We will go over:
- Tour of the Digital Learning Lab
- How to gain access
- Trainings
- Policies
Time: 10-15 minutes
Design Thinking
Introduce your students to a method of problem solving called Design Thinking. Student will engage collaboratively in a hands-on, person-first problem. This is great to add with the DLL Orientation! Topics will include:
- Steps of the Design Thinking Process
- How to Brainstorm effectively
- Develop a prototype solution with lo-fi materials
Time: 50 minutes
Introduction to Virtual Reality
This workshop will provide a basic introduction to VR and a hands-on demonstration. This workshop is catered towards individuals that have not used VR before. Topics will include:
- Introduction to what VR is and its applications
- How to checkout VR headsets in the DLL
- Headset fit, drawing a boundary, and navigating the menu
- Engaging in the "First Steps" application
- Explore other apps Applications can be geared towards course content upon request
Time: 50 minutes
Experience is limited to 14 students at a time due to equipment an space restrictions
3D Printing
This workshop will cover the entire of process of 3D printing in the DLL. Upon completion, students will be certified to use the 3D printers in the lab during their time at Catawba College. Great to pair with the 3D Modeling workshop so students learn how to create their own models! Topics will include:
- Finding models
- Using Cura to configure print settings
- Printing and post-processing

Introduction to 3D Modeling
This workshops covers the basics of 3D modeling using a web-based modeling program called Tinkercad. Pairs well with the 3D Printing workshop! Topics will include:
- Adding and editing existing shapes
- Grouping to make complex shapes
- Alignment and measurement
- Exporting as a .stl and .obj file
Time: 50 minutes
Introduction to Podcasting
This workshop covers the basics of podcasting from planning to editing. This is an excellent workshop to replace or enhance an essay assignment! Topics covered are:
- Planning for a podcast based on your format
- Necessary equipment
- How to record using the Podcasting Studio
- Editing your podcast in Audacity
- Adjust volume
- Adding music and sound effects
- Exporting
Time: 50 minutes
Video Creation
This workshop includes a presentation on how to film with your phone and how to edit those videos in Canva or Davinci Resolve. Although Canva is known for making posters and presentations, it has the capabilities to create videos. Davinci Resolve is another free program, but is for more advanced audiences. Topics will include:
- Planning and Filming
- Phone Recording Tips
- Importing media
- Splitting and cropping clips
- Adding elements to the video (images, text, audio)
- Exporting your video
