Manuel Sánchez Cabrera is Assistant Professor of Spanish. He holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures and a certificate in Cultural Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a master's degree in Spanish and Speech Communication from Southern Illinois University. At Catawba, he teaches Spanish and Latin American cultures courses. His research interests are at the intersection of Latin America film and cultural studies, Central American Studies, decolonial/postcolonial thinking, the work of Stuart Hall; and (Eco)cinema. His work has been published in the co-edited volume Central American Migrations in the Twenty-First Century, NACLA: Report on the Americas and in peer-reviewed journals such as The Latinamericanist and Istmo. He is currently working on the documentary film in Central America, film and the environment in Latin America and in a collaborative manuscript on Latin American Third Cinema in the Twenty-first century.
