Meet Blue

Fast. Fearless. Full of Catawba spirit.

Blue is Catawba College’s official sideline mascot and resident Catawba Cat. Since arriving on campus in August 2025, he has made it his mission to bring people together, turn up the energy, and show everyone what Catawba pride looks like.

You’ll spot him prowling the sidelines with the Catawba Indians, welcoming future students, surprising classes, crashing campus events, celebrating big moments, and making friends wherever he goes.

A Catawba Cat is one of a kind, combining the cunning, speed, stealth, strength, and keen eyesight of some of the world’s fiercest cats. Blue puts all of those skills to work for one important purpose: Catawba College.

And while he may be relatively new to campus, his name carries a much deeper story. Blue is named in tribute to Chief Gilbert Blue of the Catawba Indian Nation, whose decades of leadership, strength, wisdom, and advocacy left a lasting legacy. The name also reflects a color deeply connected to Catawba College and the natural beauty of the region we call home.

Blue’s Philosophy

There are plenty of ways to show your Catawba pride.

Blue prefers all of them.

He believes in cheering loudly, showing up for your people, trying something new, celebrating the wins, bouncing back from the losses, and making the most of every opportunity along the way.

Focused. Determined. Supportive. Curious. Fearless. Maybe just a little mischievous.

What Does Blue Do?

Officially, Blue is Catawba’s sideline mascot and an energetic ambassador for the College.

Unofficially?

He’s a welcome committee, hype crew, campus celebrity, student section regular, photo-booth professional, Catawba Indians superfan, and all-around champion of Catawba College spirit.

From a future student’s first visit to an alum’s return to campus, Blue is there to make people feel part of Catawba.

Because around here, showing up matters. Supporting one another matters. And when the whole Catawba community comes together, good goes far.
