Dr. Megan O. Thompson, LCMHC, NCC is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Fieldwork Coordinator at Catawba College. She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina and National Certified Counselor who brings more than 16 years of experience as a school counselor and clinician to her work as a counselor educator. She is deeply committed to student mentorship, experiential learning, and the development of thoughtful, skilled, and compassionate counseling professionals.

Dr. Thompson’s scholarship focuses broadly on counselor development, well-being, and the role of meaningful relationships in fostering growth and resilience. As Fieldwork Coordinator, she supports counseling students throughout their clinical training, coordinating and overseeing master’s-level practicum and internship experiences. Her work with students also extends beyond the counseling program through an ongoing partnership with Catawba College’s Women’s Beach Volleyball Team, where she works with student-athletes in areas related to mindfulness, resilience, mental toughness, and performance.

Dr. Thompson earned her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Regent University, where she received the Outstanding Graduate Award in recognition of her accomplishments during her doctoral training. Across her teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service, her work reflects a commitment to creating meaningful learning experiences and supporting students as they develop both personally and professionally.

In her free time, Dr. Thompson enjoys attending her children’s sporting events and unwinding with a good book and cup of coffee!
