Megan O. Thompson, PhD, LCMHC, NCC is an Assistant Professor at Catawba College in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. She is a licensed clinical mental health counselor and a licensed school counselor with over fifteen years of experience working with children and adolescents. In addition to her role in the CMHC program, Dr. Thompson maintains a small caseload in her private practice, where she works with adolescents and young adults. Dr. Thompson has experience teaching various counseling courses, including crisis and trauma, multicultural counseling, introduction to counseling skills., practicum, and advanced counseling skills.  She is passionate about contributing to the growth and development of counselors-in-training and focuses her scholarship on topics related to counselor identity and development. Dr. Thompson earned her BS in Psychology from Sweet Briar College and her MA in School Counseling from UNC Charlotte. She earned her PhD from Regent University, where she was awarded the 2023 Outstanding Graduate Award. In her free time, Dr. Thompson enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and bernedoodle and attending her children’s various sporting events.
