Catawba College Esports Completes Another Successful Fall Campaign

The nationally recognized Catawba College Esports program has achieved significant milestones during the recent fall season, surpassing 800 program wins. The Rocket League team reached the final four in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), marking their first appearance at this level. They will continue their run after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Other teams also made notable postseason appearances:
•    League of Legends: Sweet 16
•    Overwatch: Sweet 16
•    Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Top 24
•    Apex Legends: Ranked 6th nationally

Catawba Esports Championship Rings

Individual players have been recognized as finalists for various awards, including Player of the Month, Rookie of the Month, and Season awards. Additionally, rings commemorating national championships from 2020, 2023, and 2024 have arrived on campus. A celebration of these achievements and the distribution of 17 conference awards are planned.

"As the first varsity esports program in the State of North Carolina, Catawba Esports has consistently pushed the boundaries of what collegiate programs can achieve,” said Gidd Sasser, Director of Catawba’s Esports. “These milestones reflect our players and staff's hard work, talent, and dedication. I'm incredibly proud of what we’ve built and can’t wait to see what the future holds."

•    National Championships: 3
•    Conference Championships: 4
•    Regular Season Championships: 2 (since the 2023–2024 season)
