Catawba College’s nationally recognized Esports programs continue to be recognized for their outstanding efforts. Two members of their Esports program were named Player and Rookie of the Month for November by ECAC Esports.

Eli “Icy” Maples is the Apex Legends Rookie of the Month. In their first semester at Catawba College, Maples played for the VALORANT and Apex Legends teams. Maples quickly adapted to playing Apex Legends full-time, without doing so prior, and helped the team reach a top 6 finish nationally.

Carter “Crater” Mayhew is the Rocket League Player of the Month. In their first semester leading a new team, Catawba’s Rocket League team qualified for playoffs, with Mayhew being a leading scorer for the team. Mayhew has been an outstanding Esports program and campus community member, always ready to serve and volunteer.

"We are thrilled to celebrate Eli and Carter’s outstanding achievements as Esports Rookie of the Month and League Player of the Month,” said Dr. Stephan Moore, Interim Dean of Students. “Their dedication to academics and Esports exemplifies the excellence we strive for at Catawba. Good at Catawba truly goes far!"
