"For the third year in a row, Catawba’s Department of Nursing has obtained a 100% NCLEX first-time pass rate,” said Dr. Valerie Rakes, Department of Nursing Chair. “The NCLEX is the licensing exam that all prelicensure nursing graduates must obtain to begin practice as a professional registered nurse. Faculty and students begin preparations for the exam in the first semester of the nursing program. The exam tests student's ability to make safe and effective care decisions using clinical judgment and reasoning. The faculty has implemented curricular and program revisions to ensure Catawba College graduates are ready for real-world practice in an ever-changing healthcare environment. We congratulate the Class of 2024 on this accomplishment."
The average NCLEX pass rate in the United States is around 80%.
The NCLEX is a comprehensive and standardized exam that covers critical areas of nursing, including a safe care environment, health maintenance, and reduction of risk potential. The exam includes real-world case studies to measure a nurse’s ability to think more critically and make the right decisions.
Pass rates will officially be reported by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing in July.
