Catawba College announces that William (Will) Huesman III will join the College as Major Gift Officer beginning March 18.

Huesman brings experience in higher education advancement and a demonstrated commitment to liberal arts education and philanthropic partnership. In his new role, he will cultivate and steward relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of the College, advancing Catawba’s comprehensive campaign, Where Our Good Goes. The campaign strengthens student opportunity, academic distinction, athletics, and endowment growth.

“As a native North Carolinian, I am proud to be returning to my home state and joining the Catawba College community,” shared Huesman. “Catawba’s values resonate deeply with me, and I look forward to supporting the College’s mission of providing an education that is both purposeful and personal.”

Huesman currently serves as Assistant Director of Leadership Giving at the University of Richmond, where he manages a portfolio of prospects and conducts more than 100 donor meetings annually. He has consistently exceeded fundraising goals through leadership annual gifts, major gifts, and planned gifts in support of scholarships and institutional priorities. Prior to Richmond, he held frontline development roles at Wake Forest University, contributing to the successful Wake Will capital campaign and securing support for scholarships, capital initiatives, and the annual fund.

Having grown up less than an hour from Salisbury, Huesman looks forward to investing in the region’s continued vitality through the work of the College.

“Will brings strong fundraising experience and a commitment to relationship-based philanthropy,” said Meg Dees, Vice President for Development. “Where Our Good Goes aligns generosity with purpose. Will understands how to build the partnerships that move that work forward.”

Huesman holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Wake Forest University and has completed additional professional training in nonprofit management and frontline fundraising. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated strategic portfolio management, disciplined follow-through, and a donor-centered approach to advancement.

He and his fiancée look forward to returning to North Carolina with their two cats, Nina and Gertrude.

Catawba College continues to build philanthropic momentum, with significant endowment growth and more than $100 million in capital projects underway — all funded through private support and without incurring institutional debt. The addition of Huesman reflects the College’s continued investment in the partnerships that sustain its mission and extend its impact.
