One hundred local families will enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner this year, courtesy of Catawba College's 15th annual "Duck Draw" community service project. As of November 22, the event will have provided over 1,900 families with Thanksgiving meals since its inception.
Members of the Residence Life staff began collecting $1 donations in September to sponsor ducks. On Tuesday, November 13, the ducks were floated in the fountain at Stanback Plaza and a number were randomly drawn by Dean of Students Jared Tice. Those sponsoring the ducks drawn received prizes from a list of over 150 gift cards and items generously donated by local businesses.
The Duck Draw, sponsored by the college's Residence Life staff, helps generate proceeds to provide Thanksgiving dinners for families in our local community. Dinners consist of a 10-12 pound turkey, baking pan, rice, cranberry sauce, green beans, corn, stuffing mix and box of brownie mix.
Thank you to everyone who sponsored a duck this year!
