LaQuon Rogers of Ayden was elected as Governor of the American Legion Tar Heel Boys' State Wednesday, June 22 during the week-long event held at Catawba College. LaQuon is a rising senior at Ayden Grifton High School. He is the son of Trymane Rogers and Alisa Barret of Ayden and the grandson of Julia Rogers of Ayden.
LaQuon is a person who has always aspired to be a leader of people. He does give special thanks to God for allowing him to be a successful gubernatorial nominee and Governor. LaQuon admits that the road to success is not easy. He was first inspired to run for Governor through the overwhelming support of his God-father, Charles Edward, grandmother, parents, and guidance counselors of Ayden Grifton High School. LaQuon would like to also give his heartfelt thanks to Mr. John Stole of the Greenville American Legion.
The American Legion sponsors a week-long program which mimics the realities of National, State, and local government. Delegates, known as citizens, run for offices across a statewide slate of candidates. The highest office, Governor, represents the interests and ideas of the citizens of the state.
This is the ninth consecutive year that the event has been held on Catawba's campus and approximately 300 participants, all rising high school seniors from North Carolina, are involved.
