Jonathan Jackson of Moyock, NC was elected as Governor of the American Legion Tar Heel Boys' State Wednesday, June 20 during the week-long event held at Catawba College. Jonathan is a rising senior at Currituck County High School. He is the son of Rebecca Logan and Steven Jackson.
Being elected to any position involves a special kind of connection with the people. It is those people who should control the way they are governed. He is a firm believer in the Constitution of the United States of America and follows politics and government closely. Typically, he is seen as an outspoken individual in his school and community, which are the ones who support him along the way with his family and friends. He thanks everyone involved in the program for this inspirational opportunity and looks forward to serving his position as governor to the best of his ability.
The American Legion sponsors a week-long program which mimics the realities of National, State, and local government. Delegates, known as citizens, run for offices across a statewide slate of candidates. The highest office, Governor, represents the interests and ideas of the citizens of the state.
This is the tenth consecutive year that the event has been held on Catawba’s campus and approximately 300 participants, all rising high school seniors from North Carolina, are involved.
