Nick Clemens of Chapel Hill, NC was elected as Governor of the American Legion Tar Heel Boys' State Wednesday, June 19 during the week-long event held at Catawba College. Nick is a rising senior at Carrboro High School. He is the son of Georgie and Chris Clemens.
The government is run by the people, and to get elected to any position it requires the support of these people, not just the ability to be the best. Nick believes that all is done through the people from both parties, and for a successful state it is required for these parties to get past their differences. Nick is seen as a strong leader in his church and his community. He plans to stand by his belief of one state over two parties to keep things running efficiently throughout his time in office. He will do his best to lead boys state to greatness.
The American Legion sponsors a week-long program which mimics the realities of National, State, and local government. Delegates, known as citizens, run for offices across a statewide slate of candidates. The highest office, Governor, represents the interests and ideas of the citizens of the state.
This is the eleventh consecutive year that the event has been held on Catawba's campus and approximately 300 participants, all rising high school seniors from North Carolina, are involved.
