Catawba College's English Department will sponsor a reading by poets Mary Kay Rummel and Janice Fuller on Tuesday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Tom Smith Auditorium.
Mary Kay Rummel's new book of poetry, The Illuminations, is from Cherry Grove Collections. Her other poetry books are Green Journey Red Bird (Loonfeather Press), The Long Journey Into North (Juniper Press) and This Body She's Entered, a Minnesota Voices Award winner at New Rivers Press. Her poems have appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies, most recently Runes, ARTLIFE, Northeast, Bloomsbury Review, Nimrod, Water-Stone Review, Comstock Review, Askew and To Sing Along the Way, an anthology of Minnesota women poets through history. Rummel has read her work at many colleges, bookstores and galleries in the United States, England and Ireland and has performed poetry with classical musicians and dancers. A professor emerita from the University of Minnesota, she divides her time between Minneapolis and Ventura, CA where she teaches at California State University at Channel Islands.
Janice Fuller, Writer-in-Residence and Professor of English at Catawba, will read from her newly published poetry book Séance from Iris Press. She has previously published two other poetry books — Archeology Is a Destructive Science (Scots Plaid Press) and Sex Education (Iris Press). Her poems and essays have appeared in numerous magazines, including Magma (London), New Welsh Review, Asheville Poetry Review, Poems & Plays, Kakalak Anthology of Carolina Poets, Comstock Review, Fourth River, Tar River Poetry, Pembroke Magazine, and Mississippi Quarterly. Fuller regularly teaches summer creative writing workshops at Wildacres Writers' Workshop and at Ty Newydd National Writers' Centre for Wales. Her plays and libretti have been produced at Florence Busby Corriher Theatre, Hedrick Theatre, BareBones Theater's New Play Festival, Minneapolis Fringe Festival, Estonia's Polli Talu Art Center, and Rendez-Vous Musique Nouvelle in France.
