Ludwig van Beethoven was 5'6" tall and his favorite food was macaroni and cheese. He had to have exactly 60 coffee beans to make his coffee; 59 or 61 were absolutely not acceptable. And Fur Elise was actually written for Therese, except she declined his marriage proposal, so he renamed it "for Elise"!
These are just a few facts about Ludwig van Beethoven shared at the second annual Catawba College Community Music Program composer focus event. This event is an interactive program incorporating student performances, contemporary film and audio clips with a narration based on fun and unique facts about a specific musician.
Beethoven Blast was held at the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on Sunday, February 25, and featured the following students from the piano studios of Angela Lowry, Susan McLain and Laurie Klaus: Anna Flynn, Mason Jennings, Rachel Hopler, McKenzie Stevens, Margaret Kaufmann, Alexis Kemp, Asia Kemp, Charlotte Kaufmann, Kathryn Swaim, Gabe Steinman, Madeline Hoskins, Anna Chamberlain, Alex Reed, Catherine Thriveni, George Mobley and Sam Shores. The program culminated in an exciting performance of the first movement of Beethoven's Emperor Concerto performed by Susan McLain and Angela Lowry.
Established in 1984, the Catawba College Community Music Program continues to provide quality musical opportunities through private lessons in piano, percussion, guitar, brass, woodwinds and strings, along with early childhood music classes, piano classes, and songwriting class.
