Catawba College, in conjunction with The Salisbury Post and the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting several Candidate Forums on Wednesday, April 11, and Thursday, April 12 on campus in Tom Smith Auditorium. These forums are offered as a public service to the Salisbury and Rowan County community.
Between 6 and 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, Republican candidates vying for the N.C. House 76 Seat will speak. They include Carl Ford and Eric Troyer. After a short break on April 11, all candidates running for the U.S. House 8th District Seat will participate in a forum between 7 and 8:30 p.m. Those U.S. House 8th District candidates include Democratic incumbent Larry Kissell (who has been invited, but whose participation is not yet confirmed) and Democratic candidate Marcus Williams, along with Republicans Richard Hudson, Scott Keadle, Vernon Robinson, Fred Steen and John Whitley.
On Thursday, April 12 between 6 and 7:30 p.m. Democratic and Republican candidates vying for a seat on the Rowan County Commission will participate in a forum. They include Democrats Thomas J. (Jack) Eller, Corey Hill, Travis Summitt, Ralph Walton, Leda Shuping Belk and Carrol Crawford, along with Republicans Carl Dangerfield, William (Bill) Feather, Laura Eller Hutchison, Joel Johnson, Gene Miller, Craig Pierce, Gus Andrews, and Mike Caskey.
Dr. Michael Bitzer, associate professor and chair of history and politics at Catawba, will serve as the moderator of each of these forums.
