
Catawba College alumnus Edwin Stuart Powell, Jr. '69 of Holly Springs will become an Executive in Residence in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University beginning in August.
Powell will retire from Independent Insurance Agents of N.C. at the end of July after almost 21 years before assuming his new role at Appalachian State University, where he will be teaching courses in insurance and risk management and mentoring students through the Brantley Center for Risk and Insurance.
Powell received Catawba's Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2013. His professional awards and activities are numerous, as are his publications regarding his profession. He has written about everything from Cyber Exposures and Insurance to Flood Insurance and even Dog Bites Insurance. He is past president of the Reidsville Chamber of Commerce and the Reidsville Downtown Corporation and a past member of the Rockingham County Airport Authority. The Reidsville Jaycees honored him with their Distinguished Service Award.
