Catawba College Provost Dr. J. Michael Bitzer has named Jeffrey J. Bowe the interim director of Catawba's School of Evening and Graduate Studies (SEGS). Bowe, who joined the college in 2012, has been serving as the current director of SEGS partnerships and assistant professor of business.
Bowe has been instrumental in creating and maintaining the partnership that Catawba enjoys with Central Piedmont Community College, the state's largest community college. That partnership allows Catawba to offer two bachelor's degree programs on several of CPCC's campuses in which students earn a Catawba degree on a CPCC campus. One program is in business administration (Bachelor of Business Administration – BBA) for CPCC graduates who have earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in business or accounting and can earn a bachelor's degree from Catawba College in just two years. The second program is a bachelor's degree in early education with birth-kindergarten specialty on the Harris campus of CPCC, also allowing completion of the degree in about two years.
Bowe will provide the leadership in the SEGS program after that program's dean, Dr. Edith Bolick, stepped down to return to the faculty ranks as chair and professor of sociology at Catawba.
Bowe is currently completing his Doctor of Business Administration, with a major in marketing and research emphasis of sales ethics and entrepreneurial marketing, at Anderson University (Indiana). He earned his Master of Business Administration from Indiana University with a major in management and minor in finance and his Bachelor of Arts with honors from DePauw University with double majors in psychology and world religions. He is the author of "Get INFOCUS Get Cash," a 510-page book on sales tactics, strategy and related communication skills.
I have over 16 years in adult education, 6 years as faculty and staff, but much more importantly, over 10 years as an adult student," Bowe shared after his new appointment was announced. "I get that juggling act of work, school, and life because I have lived it. Students who did not go straight to college from high school have unique wants and need, and I look forward to increasing Catawba's support and service to this growing population."
Prior to joining Catawba, Bowe served as a tenure track, assistant professor at Eastern Nazarene College, and as an adjunct faculty member at Oakland City University, Anderson University, Capella University, and Indiana Wesleyan University. Bowe has 25 years of business experience, including ownership of multiple companies.
