Catawba College and the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) completed their first blood drive together on January 20, 2011. The drive, held in the Cannon Student Center on Catawba's campus, was coordinated by Sarah Rossini, Director of Housing at the college. After a week of recruitment by housing staff, 105 students registered to give blood.
"The drive was a huge success for our students and the blood center. This was the largest turnout we have ever had for a blood drive on campus. Of the 105 students that came out to donate 76 were successful. This means that our students were responsible for helping 228 patients who are in need of blood products," said Sarah Rossini, Director of Housing at Catawba.
"This new partnership will help ensure that patients in our local hospitals have the products they need available to them. We (CBCC) couldn't be happier about partnering with Catawba. The student turnout was better than we could have hoped for, and I'm sure we'll see even bigger numbers at our next drives," said Adam Eberhart, Development Specialist for CBCC.
Catawba and CBCC will plan to hold two large drives a year with smaller drives scheduled throughout the year. For info on future drives you can check the Catawba and/ or CBCC website.
