Catawba College officials hope area undergraduate students will consider staying home this summer and taking courses to meet their general education core requirements at Catawba.
Two five-week sessions, running May 16 through June 17 and June 20 through July 22, will be available at Catawba, and all courses offered will be taught by fulltime faculty. Most courses should transfer to other colleges or universities, explained Dr. Philip Acree Cavalier, Catawba’s assistant dean and coordinator of summer school.
“All courses, with the exception of the language courses, will meet two hours a day five days a week. Students can also take one of the intensive language courses at either the elementary or intermediate level and complete an entire year of foreign language in one summer session,” Acree Cavalier said. “This year, we’re going to guarantee that the general education courses will make.”
General education core requirement courses to be offered include modern foreign language (elementary and intermediate Spanish), fine arts (world music), natural science (meteorology), mathematics (college algebra and calculus), social behavioral science (psychology of human sexuality), and humanities (survey of American history).
