Robert J. Casmus, head athletic trainer at Catawba College was honored earlier this month while attending the National Athletic Trainers’ Association annual meeting in Indianapolis , Indiana.
He received N.A.T.A.’s Atheltic Trainer Service Award for dedicated service and outstanding contribution to the profession of athletic training and to the Association. He also received the Dan Libera Service Award from the Board of Certification, Inc. for his outstanding contributions.
Casmus, a native of Sinking Spring, Pa, joined Catawba 14 years ago. He oversees all of the college’s athletic health care services and the athletic drug testing and education program for 17 varsity sports teams, and manages a staff of three assistant athletic trainers and approximately 20 student athletic trainers.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Education from Temple University and his master’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Arizona. While pursuing his degrees, he worked as an athletic trainer for St. John Neumann High School, as a summer intern for the Philadelphia Eagles, and as head athletic trainer at Palo Verde High School.
Casmus completed the Advanced Athletic Training Program at West Chester University and is a certified EMT in the state of North Carolina. He has also completed 24 hours of post-graduate work at Penn State, East Carolina, Virginia, and Washington Universities.
Prior to joining Catawba, Casmus served for five years as the head athletic trainer at Chowan College. He currently serves as test site administrator for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification.
Casmus and his wife, the former Teresa Moore, make their home in Salisbury and are the parents of a son, Will.
