Dr. John Wear, director of the Catawba College Center for the Environment, will be featured March 8 on the syndicated science radio program "Earth & Sky." The series is broadcast globally on 1,000 radio stations and has 10 million weekly listeners.
An excerpt of Wear's interview on ecosystem services will be part of the "Interviews with Scientists" program, which has featured such notables as Jane Goodall, the world's foremost authority on chimpanzees; Sylvia Earle, a pioneer in ocean exploration; and Wangari Maathai, a Nobel Prize winner who launched the Green Belt Movement in Kenya.
The "Interview with Scientists" feature deals with everything from bioethics to the Big Bang theory, from climate change to killing cancer cells with nanotechnology.
A transcript of Wear's interview will also appear on the program's web site, www.earthsky.org. All interviews undergo a peer review before airing and being placed on the web site. More than 500 scientists work with the series as advisors.
"Earth & Sky" is typically heard between NPR segments on public radio, but it is also broadcast on over 200 commercial radio stations as well as on Voice of America, XM and Sirius satellite networks. Its 20 North Carolina affiliates include WFAE-FM in Charlotte, WBZB-AM in Raleigh, WQFS-FM in Greensboro, WTEB-FM in New Bern and WWCU-FM in Cullowhee.
