Catawba College faculty and staff members pride themselves on their professional accomplishments outside the classroom. Following are some of their recent activities.
Robert J. Casmus
Robert J. Casmus, head athletic trainer and instructor of physical education, recently received a 20-year award from the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association (NCATA). The award was presented at that organization’s annual meeting held earlier this month.
Casmus will also receive a national award in May at the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association Meeting to be held in Virginia Beach, Va. He will be presented the National Athletic Trainers Association Athletic Training Service Award at that meeting and then be recognized for this honor again in June at the NATA annual meeting and symposium to be held in Indianapolis.
Dr. Paul Baker
Dr. Paul Baker, a professor of mathematics, presented a paper, “A Fresh Approach to Statistics,” at the spring meeting of the Southeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America held at Meredith College on March 11.
March 5, Baker presented a program on his mission work with Russian and Cambodian orphanages at the United Christian Women’s World Day of Prayer meeting held at John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Salisbury.
Dr. Kurt Corriher and Dr. Sanford Silverburg
Two Catawba College professors recently visited Donna Rymer’s AIG fifth graders at Bostian Elementary School to speak on different topics.
Dr. Kurt Corriher, director of Catawba’s Center for International Studies and a published author, spoke about the writing process and his novel, “Someone to Kill.”
Dr. Sanford Silverburg, chair and professor of political science and a specialist in international relations and international law as well as the government and politics of the Middle East, spoke about the war in Iraq.
