Dr. Maria Vandergriff-Avery, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Catawba College Department of Sociology, recently had an article published. "Resiliency Capacities Among Rural Low-Income Families," was published in the October-December 2004 edition of the journal, Families in Society: The Journal of Contemporary Social Services.

Dr. Stephen Hiatt, a Catawba College Professor of Information Systems, served as a member of a Salisbury’s downtown convention center task force. That 19-person task force, which spent six month on its assignment, recently submitted its final report to the Salisbury City Council.

Hiatt is also conducting a series of workshop for the City of Salisbury. He has completed five for the Salisbury Fire Department and has plans for five additional workshops in February and March based on the book, "Good to Great" by Jim Collins.

Hiatt will participate in the City of Salisbury’s 20th Annual Future Directions and Goal Setting conference in early February. This is his second year of participation in the conference.
