Catawba College will have two new area coordinators in the Student Life Department when the 2005-2006 academic year begins next month. Katie Slagle and Ben Smith are already on the job, said Dan Sullivan, Catawba’s Director of Residence Life.

Slagle is the area coordinator in charge of student judicial programs, while Smith is an area coordinator responsible for student intramurals activities, the College’s Lerner Wellness Center, and on-campus alcohol education programs. "Both of these individuals give us some new depth in Residence Life," explained Sullivan. "They have prior experience at other institutions which they can readily translate into assistance for us here at Catawba."

A native of Raleigh, Slagle earned her undergraduate degree in criminal justice and philosophy along with her master’s degree in public administration from East Carolina University in Greenville. Prior to joining Catawba, she was employed as a training and leadership intern with ProjectHEART, AmeriCorps in Greenville and also worked as a graduate assistant at East Carolina University in both the Student Leadership Development Program and in the Office of Student Conflict Resolution.

A native of Aiken, S.C., Smith earned his undergraduate degree in exercise science and his master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from the University of South Carolina at Aiken. He has worked as an academic enrichment coordinator for resident life for several years at his previous institution. Prior to that, he worked as the intramural coordinator and senior exercise specialist in USC-Aiken’s Wellness Center.
