Thursday, March 29, marked the fifth year that Catawba College served as a qualifying site for the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics state contests.
The top 10 percent of participants in Algebra I and Geometry competition advanced to the regional finals held either at UNC-Greensboro or UNC-Asheville. There were 129 students who took Algebra I and 77 students who took Geometry. A total of 206 students, along with 26 teachers and parents, visited campus for the contests. Eleven schools had students who participated, including local schools North Rowan Middle, Knox Middle, North Hills Christian, Sacred Heart Catholic, and Gray Stone Day School; while regional schools also sent participants, including Mint Hill Middle, Davidson Day, Northeast Middle, Northview Middle, Martin Luther King Jr. Middle, and The Academy at Lincoln.
The only local student who advanced to the regional's in Algebra I was Joshua Price from North Rowan Middle.
This is an annual event hosted by Catawba College's Mathematics Department.
