In support of the local Salisbury-Rowan Relay for Life effort, Catawba College's sophomore class Student Government Association is sponsoring a Luminary Service at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15 in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on campus. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
The event is scheduled several weeks prior to the 24-hour Relay for Life, May 4 and 5. This Service will be an opportunity for those with friends and loved ones who suffer or those who are suffering or have suffered with cancer to gather in commemoration.
Luminaries will be available for purchase 30 minutes prior to the service for $5 each in honor or memory of individuals and will be displayed (outside the chapel). Those interested in making a donation to the sophomore Class of 2009's fundraising goal of $1,000 can donate online now.
Assisting the sophomore class in this effort are Catawba Crazies, the senior and junior class SGA, and the group, Divine Unity.
Divine Unity will be singing at the non-denominational service.
Sophomore Class officers include Megan Spidell of Salisbury, president; Brittany Tyner of Cameron, vice-president; Kenzie Brogden of Wilmington, secretary; Heather Schiffhauer of Weaverville, treasurer; and Cecilia Runge of Milford, N.J., Matthew Jamison of Salisbury, senators.
