Four faculty members and five students from the Catawba College Mathematics Department attended the Southeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America meeting held in Clarksville, Tenn. March 26-27.
Faculty members included Professors Joyce Caddell, Dr. Paul Baker, Dr. Jason Hunt and Dr. John Zerger. These five also attended the N.C. Mathematical Association of America dinner held April 20 at Elon University.
Five students participated in the Southeastern Section meeting. Juniors Kristen Kobylus and Kelly Burdeau, both of Salisbury, presented research papers at the meeting. Other students participating were members of the Catawba team in a Math Jeopardy Contest, and in addition to Kobylus, included Junior Hollie Bruce of Salisbury, Freshman Staphani Garrett of Hagerstown, Md., and Senior Jennifer O’Connell of Jamesburg, N.J. Catawba’s Math Jeopardy Contest Team placed seventh in the competition.
