Members of the faculty and several students of the Catawba College Psychology Department attended the annual meeting of the Southeastern Psychological Association in March. Student Kathryn Shanklin of Cypress, Texas presented her work titled "Facebook: An Addiction?" during the Undergraduate Poster Session. Her research was conducted with Dr. Lyn Boulter, professor of psychology, and Professor Pam Thompson, associate professor of business.
Also, students Danielle Schneider of New Castle, Del., and Jessica Davison of Springfield, Pa., with Dr. Sheila Brownlow, professor of psychology, presented their research entitled "Can Hispanic Names Cue Aversive Bias?" during the opening evening session of the conference. Additionally, students Kathleen Rebadow of Melbourne, Fla., and Amanda Kanoy of Thomasville, along with Dr. Brownlow reported the results of their research "Can Priming Collective Self-Esteem Improve Women's Rotations Skills?"
The SEPA conference is one event to which students and faculty of the psychology department look forward each year; for over 35 years at least one Catawba College student and/or faculty member have presented their research or given a talk at this conference.
