Some Catawba College Theatre Arts students have been selected as winners of some key 2004-2005 Metrolina Theatre Awards.

Catawba’s “The Marriage of Figaro” was nominated for Outstanding Production and although it was not a winner, several of its cast and crew members were among the award winners.   They include:

Candace Neal, a sophomore from Waxhaw who played Suzanne, winner of  Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a leading Role – Female; Shea Walker, a 2005 graduate from Salisbury, winner of Outstanding Costume  Design; David Pulliam, a professor of theatre arts, winner of Outstanding Director and Out-standing Set Design; and Chris Zink, an associate professor of theatre arts, winner of Outstanding Lighting  Design.

Beth Simpson, a junior from Loveland, Ohio, was an award winner for her role in the Piedmont Players’ production of “Peter Pan.”

Other Catawba College students who were nominated for an award and their respective categories include Anthony Johnson, a 2005 graduate from Burlington who played Larry Foreman/Junior Mister in “The Cradle Will Rock,” for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role – Male; and Sarah Koerner, a sophomore from Rocky Mount who played Danker/Ella in “The Cradle Will Rock,” for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role – Female.
