Catawba College welcomes the New York-based Strangemen & Company and Theatre Arts alumna Amanda Lederer '10 to campus for a forum and a two-day master class in late August. Lederer serves as an actor, executive producer, and outreach director for Strangemen & Company.
The forum is free and open to the public and is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 25, in Hedrick Little Theatre on campus. A two-day master class, exclusively for Catawba Theatre Arts students, is scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, August 26 and 27.
By the "fusion of movement, sound, shapes and text," the Strangemen & Company master class will offer students "a hands on experience" utilizing various techniques grounded in "movement-based theatrical techniques, clown, puppetry and the various, crucial elements of thematic study to dig into a story's potential." The idea behind the master class is to broaden "an artist's arsenal of creation."
Founded in 2010 by Jason Ralph, James Ortiz, and Frank Winters, Strangemen & Company are located in New York, New York. Their focus is on "creating company-devised work that will honor what is simple and true in each individual story."
