Using a contemporary translation and evocative original music, the Catawba College Theatre Arts Department will present Euripides' "Trojan Women" at 7:30 p.m. April 5-8 in Keppel Auditorium on campus.

Called one of the greatest anti-war plays ever written, this Greek tragedy is set in the aftermath of the Trojan War.   The women of Troy who neither started nor carried on the war, must deal with its consequences.   They remain in the ruins of their country, enslaved by the conquering Greeks and awaiting an uncertain fate.

Euripides presents a deeply thought-provoking and complex play about the role of women in war.   The play raises questions that are extremely relevant today: "Why war now?" "Why is that the only way to solve problems?" and "What happens to women during and after war?"
