Cyndi Allison Wittum, a Catawba College instructor in Communication Arts and advisor to the student newspaper, The Pioneer, is blogging again about grilling – this time for the Sears fall tailgating series.
Wittum has a new blog article on the Sears website: www.grillingishappiness.com. And if there's any truth to the old adage that you're known by the company you keep, Wittum is renowned, with her blog posted alongside blogs written by the top grilling, barbecue, and culinary writers across the country. Sears began hosting this corporate blog to help consumers learn about and enjoy cooking outdoors and initially tapped Wittum to assist with the effort in the summer of 2012.
It was likely Wittum's "Barbecue Master" blog that started it all off. Wittum said that original blog of hers was a hobby, "designed to help my family and friends with grilling questions."
Sears is not the first company to notice Wittum. She was selected to write the feature article and test grills for "top picks" for Consumers Digest in 2006 and 2011 and to cover the history of North Carolina barbecue and select the best RTP barbecue joints for a hotel coffee table book that was published a few years ago. She blogged this past summer for McCormick as they kicked off their new line of grill seasonings and marinades.
Wittum joined the faculty of Catawba as an adjunct in September, 1997 and became a fulltime instructor in August, 1999. Journalism, new media, online publication, persuasion, and public speaking are her areas of focus in the courses she teaches.
She earned her bachelor's degree in speech and communication from North Carolina State University and her master's degree in radio/television from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She has been writing professionally for over 30 years and has been publishing online for about 14 years.
She owns her own blogs and websites as well as freelancing with major corporations. Her grilling recipes and advice can be viewed via the following links:
